You’re probably thinking that the Chappelli Cycles film we featured in last week’s blog wouldn’t necessarily warrant a full-blown director’s comments and special extras blog post edition…I mean, it was only 2:08 minutes long.
But you’d be wrong! This week we managed to speak to one of the guys behind the film, Lewis Farrar, who has just returned from being “out west” on a different shoot.
Lewis was involved in producing the film and had the initial concept and idea, while his friends – who started the Joy Collective production company – saw to the shooting and editing.
The concept itself was fairly straightforward he said, basically designed to evoke sentiments of freedom, friends, fun and, ehrm, forests.
As for specifically using Chappelli bikes, he said: “The bikes have a great mix of classic & modern aesthetic so they look cool on film and bikes and hills are a no brainer.” At this point we should also disclose that Lewis has also previously helped us in our workshop.
And, as is always the case with filming outdoors, there is always at least one, Oh Shit moment.
“We ended up at night in the rain with the road on fire (kerosene) and got the most epic shot,” he said, adding, “but I forgot to press record.”
They did however stop a car in its tracks when it came around a corner and saw five fire stick wielding youth on bikes heading straight for them.
